About Gin Rummy
At the beginning of Gin Rummy Solitaire, you and an opponent are each given 10 cards. You and the other player alternate between turns.
During your turn, you can either draw a random card from the draw pile or pick up the card to the right of the draw pile to your hand. At the end of each turn, you must place one of your cards in the discard pile.
With the cards in your hand, you are trying to create melds. A meld is 3 or more cards of the same number or 3 or more cards in consecutive order of the same suit. Any single card can only belong to one meld at a time.
Cards within your hand that are not part of your melds are called deadwood cards. Each deadwood card has points. Each numbered card gives you that many points, while Jacks, Queens and Kings each give you 10 points.
The goal of the game is to keep your deadwood points as low as possible. Depending on the game, there is a set deadwood count you are supposed to get.
The first person to reach that number goal is the winner of the game. In this particular match, the goal is 25 to start.
When playing with someone in person, you can come up with a different number of your choosing and as you get better at the game, make it harder and harder to reach. This is a great way to spend your time. A great brain teaser.
